Conversational home and IoT automation
Wire Pi's tools to the scripts and APIs that already run your home, then drive them in plain language from the messenger you already have open.
Who it's for: Homelab owners and tinkerers who want a conversational front-end to their own stack.
The problem
- Home-automation front-ends are either rigid dashboards or fragile if-this-then-that rules.
- Cloud assistants send everything about your home to a third party.
- Voice assistants can't run an arbitrary script or read a Grafana panel.
With openclawOS
- Pi has a shell and browser tool, so it can run your existing scripts and read your existing dashboards.
- Everything runs on hardware you control — nothing about your home leaves your network.
- Message from WhatsApp or iMessage; the same agent, wherever you are.
How to set it up
- 1
Install openclawOS
Start the gateway on a homelab box or a spare Mac mini.
- 2
Pair a personal channel
Pair WhatsApp or iMessage so you can message Pi privately.
- 3
Expose your scripts
Let Pi's shell tool call the scripts and CLIs that already control your devices.
- 4
Talk to your home
Message 'start the robot vacuum' or 'what's the CPU on the NAS?' and Pi does it.
Common questions
No. Pi calls whatever you already have — a shell script, a REST endpoint, a CLI. If you run Home Assistant, Pi can drive it too.
Related use cases
- A personal life-OS in your messenger Let Pi triage your health stats, calendar and notes into a single morning brief on iMessage — one agent following you across channels.
- PR review and code triage from a chat app Have Pi review pull requests, summarise diffs and surface regressions, then deliver the result to Telegram or Slack — no laptop required.
